Gotta stay consistent—the “P” is for Persevere.

I’ve been sending my family the meaning of Champion from the song by Carrie Underwood.
I know it might sound a little cheesy, but if you really drill down, there’s a lot of wisdom to be shared.
This has always been one of my favorite parts of leadership.
Walt Disney once said,
“The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting.”
And Thomas Edison reminded us,
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
Think about that for a second.
Were these people brilliant? Absolutely.
But so are many others. The difference wasn’t just ideas—it was the willingness to stay consistent and do the hard, often unseen work.
How many times have we heard someone say, “I have a great idea for a business”?
Ideas are important. But ideas without perseverance remain just that—ideas.
Here’s what I’ve learned over the years:
- Perseverance doesn’t mean perfection. Mistakes, failures, and setbacks are part of the journey. They are signs of growth, not reasons to quit.
- Perseverance requires belief before results. Often, you have to keep moving forward long before you see success.
- Perseverance applies to people, not just goals. Building strong teams, maintaining relationships, and leading others through challenges require the same steady commitment as any professional goal.
Do the work. Stay consistent. Finish what you start.
Success happens after the hard work is done.
One of my favorite quotes sums it up perfectly. Michael Jordan once said,
“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
Let’s stay in the game. Let’s keep showing up.
That’s where the magic happens.
